Project Overview

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded RTY to implement a DREAMS initiative targeting 16,915 in and out of school adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), aged 15-24 years. The project aims to reduce new HIV infections among AGYW in 13 districts in Uganda using a combination of behavioral change, biomedical, and structural HIV prevention interventions.

RTY implements the DREAMS project in Lwengo district, covering six subcounties: Kyazanga, Malongo, Kisekka, Kkingo, Ndagwe, and Lwengo.

Target Beneficiaries

  • In-school girls (15-19 years)
  • Pregnant women (15-24 years)
  • Married women (15-19 years)
  • Women 15-24 years who gave birth by age 19
  • Women 15-24 years in transactional sex

Project Objectives

Vocational Skills

Equip beneficiaries with vocational skills to promote self-employment and self-sustenance

Agribusiness

Engage beneficiaries in agribusiness to increase employability opportunities

Financial Management

Equip beneficiaries with financial management skills using the SILC model

HIV Awareness

Enable beneficiaries to know their HIV status and support those HIV+ to adhere to ART treatment

Implementation Area: Lwengo District (Kyazanga, Malongo, Kisekka, Kkingo, Ndagwe, Lwengo)
